Della & I are drunk at the top of Mont-Royal. We have an open blue plastic thermos of red wine at our feet. It's the first day of spring & it's midnight & we've been peeling off layers of winter all day. We stand facing each other, as if to exchange vows, chests heaving from racing up & down the mountain to the sky. My face is hurting from smiling so much, aching at the edges of my words. She reaches out to hold my face in her hands, dirty palms form a bowl to rest my chin. I’m standing on a tree stump so we’re eye to eye. It’s hard to stay steady. I worry I may start to drool or laugh, I feel so unhinged from my body. It’s been one of those days I don’t want to end. Our goal was to shirk all responsibility merely to enjoy the lack of everyday obligations, to create fullness & purpose out of each other. Our knees are the colour of the ground-in grass. Our boots are caked in mud caskets. Under our nails is a mixture of minerals & organic matter, knuckles scraped by tree bark. We are the thaw embodied.

Originally, we were celebrating the fact that I got into Concordia’s visual arts program. But the congratulatory brunch she took me to at Café Santropol had turned into wine, which had turned into a day for declarations. I had a sense of spring in my body, that this season would meld into summer like a running-jump movie kiss. There would be days & days like this. XXXX gone away on a sojurn I didn’t care to note the details of, she simply ceased to be. Summer in Montreal in love is almost too much emotion to hold in an open mouth, it spills over, it causes me to not need any sleep. I don’t think I will ever feel as awake as I did in the summer of 1995.

I remember last Wednesday, exactly a week ago, it was my 2nd day back in school & I was excited for the Spring semester to begin. Everyone was in good spirits, catching up after not seeing each other for a couple of months. It was a warm, sunny, perfect day. Sakura/桜 was in full bloom & shedding its' petals so much so that the ground was covered in them & when the wind blew, its' petals scattered in the air like confetti.

There is a river thing lined with Sakura trees near my place. Ish. Between my station & the previous station. Known for Hanamis/花見. (literally: flower viewing but it basically means having a picnic & drinking alcohol at any time of the day, under Sakura trees) I've been meaning to go there but I keep saying that I'd go on a warmer day or when the sun is nicer for better photographs. On the way home today I noticed that a third to half of it is now green!! So sad... So short lived, these pretty things. Pictures of 'em from my trip around Kansai 2-3 weeks ago.

Earlier today, while in the park, James picked up a branch & was goofing around with it. He swatted it like a golf club & it made an awfully familiar noise. God works in mysterious ways. The day after I wrote my previous post, A came into my life; & today is the 1 month mark.

I won't be in Tokyo for Christmas, he won't be in Tokyo for New Year's. No kisses under the mistletoe or at the stroke of midnight on New Year's.

While hugging goodbye for the second time earlier today, there was a huge ad behind him; among many others, with the words "I Love You". It seemed like it was just then that he drew me in closer & held me tighter. & in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

I've finally put my finger on it - as to why I've been feeling so out of it in recent months. Somewhere in the transition from Canada-Singapore-Tokyo, I lost myself. I used to know who I was and was comfortable with myself. Now every thing's a blur. I have God, I have Faith, what's next? Shouldn't everything fall into place? I think my need for constant change and the hunt for thrills, adventure & new experiences aren't helping things. I need to find some Steady Ground. I think I need to put myself first for awhile. & stop dating. I haven't been really on my own since I can't even remember when. Need to stop relying on boys. For hugs, security & most importantly, knowing they are there. Day 1 starts tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Skipped my Japanese exam + Culture class yesterday. Didn't study for the former + didn't complete the essay for the latter anyway. Must. Start. Living. In. The. Library.
Room's a mess. Dreading unpacking + doing laundry from my Korea trip.
Permed my hair in Seoul. It still has the volume from the crimps, kinda. & when it's wet I look like a poodle haha. Wanted big ones but the lady was telling me either 1. It's not possible or 2. It won't be nice so I just went with it. Communication barrier. Worse than when in Japan.
Wish I had wireless in my room or that my internet cable would extend to my bed.
Finally figured out how to on the heater in my room, yay.

First 4 hours in Tokyo

So I guess this is alive & kicking now. Took forever to get through immigration, poor Ikumi was waiting for 40 mins. We then took a 2 hour bus ride to Ikebukuro, where my school's at then a 18 min train to my dorm. We were both starving by then, had big plans for dinner but the nice manager insisted we have dinner at the caf. Tour of the place. There are separate laundry rooms for boys & girls can you believe it. Walked her to the train station which is like a 1 min walk away then went to the 24 hour 100 yen (~SGD$1.50) store next door. Fav milk tea in a bottle ♥

Met one of the 2 other girls from my school, Amanda & this half Jap half Canadian girl, Sarah briefly. They asked me to go for drinks but I'm way too tired. Slept all the way on the plane except for watching the 2nd half of Hannah Montana!! I cried twice haha. The first half I watched on the flight back from Bangkok. Anyway I have some special phone in my room (IB phone or something) that's like a cheap-can-call-overseas phone. 32 yen for 3 mins to call to Sing, yay! Eh actually just converted the currency, that's SGD 50 cents for 3 mins, not cheap leh. to US only 10 yen no fair. Okay should unpack a bit & make my bed now. The futon is pathetic. No wonder it's called a futon not a mattress. It's a bit thicker than my comforter back home. Have to buy a shit load of stuff tmr. Hangers, laundry shit & what not. Orientation on Monday sianzz.

Went back to their place, put on vinyls, they played the guitar & we played living room badminton... It was like a lazy Sunday. They dropped me off at Yoga after & I went back to their place when I was done to cook them Mee Goreng. Me, cook. That's right ;)

I really didn't think I'd get the Tokyo exchange program, but things are looking good... Don't want to jinx it. Now I need to apply for bursaries & scholarships & keep my fingers crossed for the French course...

Montreal Deux

Yesterday Sucy & I went to Biosphere, this environment museum on a quaint little island, Saint-Helene Island which also housed one of the olympic pools.

Then we went to the famous Gay Village. It's a really long stretch, encompassing 3 metro stations & we walked the whole of it haha. Rainbow flags everywhere... Sleazy posters of half naked men for hire as a masseuse or stripper...

At night Fabian & I club hopped like nobody's business haha. We had guest lists for 3 clubs - Seven, La Boom & The Main & 2 random people on the train passed me a VIP pass each for Loco Loco. We went to 3 out of the 4. The scene here is really happening, & they love house. The bartenders & people at the coat check were like super thick skinned, telling me 'oh tip's not included'. & I got that from a waiter or two a couple of days back too. Like I know, duh.

Pictures in my compact cam... Let me tell you about our wonderful day today. There was a snow storm, we got snowed in, our lousy hotel's restaurant closes at 11am/only opens for breakfast. So we were stuck in our room with little to no snacks... Finally it wasn't so bad at 5ish & we went out for breakfast + lunch + dinner. Luckily we're here long so a day wasted doesn't affect our plans much. Skiing + tubing + ice skating tmr! (:

I love Montreal! From the Victorian and older buildings to all the signs & ads in French to everyone speaking French (Asians & everyone!)... Love listening to people speak in French. My French sucks balls so I only use these couple of phrases:
Allo/Boujour.
Je ne parle francaise. - I don't speak French.
Tu/vous parle anglaise?" - Do you speak English?
Merci beaucoup.
& bits of broken French here & there... Thank god I can read & understand way more than I can speak... Before I got here I heard that Montreal's really cosmopolitan & what not & everyone speaks English, it's Quebec City that speaks a lot of French & like looks at you in a different light if you don't. Not true!! It's as if their first language is French.

We took a 20ish hour train here. First time! There wasn't much to see though, everything was covered in snow... It wasn't bad at all nor did it feel that long. We had a bed each, our own room & bathroom... & the 'restaurant' was good too! I am a genius I brought the cable for my DSLR but not my compact cam... Pictures of our cabin/room thing are in there. These are some places we passed by.

My gallery showcase thing. Did a super slipshot & last minute job of it... The deadline was 2 Sundays ago & on Sat I was frantically looking for photo shops that were open. All 5-7 I went to were closed cos of the snow. Found a printing shop on Spring Garden that was open so I had to make do... Printed on photo paper & when I collected them on Sun they were overcontrasted & much darker than they actually were. But nothing I could do about it at that point. So I rushed back to punch holes, tie rope & stuff, handed it in & rushed back to Spring Garden for a group project meeting. Not proud of it... But first gallery show/experience nonetheless I guess.

Supposed to remind you of Autumn... Cos that's my favourite season. Wanted to title it 'Favourite Fall' or some other lame shit but settled for a equally lame title - 'New City, Big Dreams'. & each row had a theme. Like 'music', 'gigs/concerts', 'nature', 'sports', etc. Don't know if people could tell cos it was freaking 10 ft high.

As usual, at lunchtime on Mondays Kim & I, joined by another random person usually would go about school approaching random (not really, seemingly not busy or people we know) & ask them the question of the week. Last week Kim & I climbed up this hill thing for me to take a photo of the football field from above & we ended up rolling down (this was before it started snowing). Was super fun though my khaki-coloured jeans had green & brown dirt all over & Kim had to send her expensive jacket for dry-cleaning haha. Today Kim, Corey & I tried to go on the football field that's now covered in snow but all the entrances were locked!! Tried climbing over the fence which didn't happen ultimately cos there were spikes at the top; could possibly make us infertile haha. Poor Kim got a cut through her mittens & I ripped my new leather gloves. =( That's how sharp it was I guess. So we finally found a way in & went & wrote stomp & roll around making 'The Journal'. Each letter was 10 feet high! The small letters next to the heart is 'HBD Rob' - Happy Birthday Robbie cos we were running out of time. It was 2ish & Corey & I had class at 2.30.

So the gallery thing I was stressing over? I went to collect my photos first thing at 10ish am when they opened. (Left Isabella's party early the night before to wake up early for this!) Okay they open at 10 & I intended to get there by then but walking in snow takes longer... Went back & rushed it cos I had a project meeting at 2. Punching holes in the corners, tying rope... Will take a picture of it on Thursday, when the showcase starts. Not how I pictured it to be. Really slip shot work. Especially when I was leaving & I bumped into this girl carrying 3 pieces all pro-looking & professionally framed. Ah well. Oh it's 10 feet high! Crazy haha.

Aight 2.22am. Lit research essay due at 4 tmr... 2 other essays overdue ugh.

So Citizen Cope is playing in Fredericton on Thurs at 8.30pm. A bus there is 90 ish bucks & takes 6.5 hours. I end class at 6.45pm, the bus leaves at 7am and 12pm. Either skip class & take a long ass bus or I'm trying to find a car rental place that will rent you a car if you're under 25. Stupid rule here. Budget the cheapest car for 2 days is only 60 with tax, without insurance!

Hello y'all. It's been 15 days. Thanks to Facebook & people uploading albums/photos I find myself not even bring out my cam/taking any pictures, & there's LJ to fulfill the ad-hog need to rant or say/share something personal. Been busy with nothing in particular... Finals start next Wed. Christmas break right after. Should be going to Montreal & Toronto, or Vancouver. Wanted to go to all 3 but the train from Toronto to Vancouver takes 3 freaking days. Trains aren't cheap either I heard, 1K+? Crazy. Oh I might possibly have a showcase in a gallery next week, which I spent the whole of today stressing over. & it started snowing a couple of days back & I have pictures of that in my 2 disposables which I'll develop soon. For now I have 2 from one fine day when we saw a hugeee, raked pile of leaves from our window, ran down & literally dove into it & swam about. Twas fun. Despite leaves in our pants.

Feist was awesome, as expected. She's from Nova Scotia, I didn't know that! & one of her songs is about/inspired by Peggy's Cove. Once when no one was clapping & it was relatively quiet, towards the end of the show, this girl shouted 'I love you' & then 'tell us you love us too!' & those who heard laughed. Then after a bit Feist was like 'Okay I love you. All of you." ... "L, u, v not l, o, v, e" hahaha. The visuals were super super good!! They did it infront of us on a visualizer thing. You can see them on the right of most pictures.

This was actual paint. One of the 3 people doing the visuals 'painted' this on the spot with her hands. Like interactive art. Waves cos the song was about them.

...which was what I literally was. Being vain and wearing leggings instead of jeans when it was
-1 degrees out last night. Also which I conveniently ripped off one of their badges/pins. Stars very aptly started the show with "The Night Starts Here" & ended with "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" which lyrics go "I'm not sorry it's over..." The opening act, Hey Rosetta! really hyped the crowd well in preparation for Stars. I was caught in the middle of anticipating them saying "This is our last song" (meaning Stars will be up next!) or continuing listening to and enjoying them. It was my first time hearing them live, or hearing them at all. Sure I've heard of them, but not in the other sense of that word. My, my, they were good. Liked them so much I bought their CD, "Into Your Lungs". The crowd was neatly filed up in the pews (yes pews, for it was held at St. Mathew's United Church) during Hey Rosetta!'s set. Don't know about the rest of you but I'm surely not used to a gig/concert being held in a church. The lead singer, Torquil Campbell (who very proficiently plays the melodica and Trumpet as well) gave kudos to St. Mathew's United Church for being "the only church that allowed us to have this here & let me drink vodka while on the altar". When Hey Rosetta! finished their set, however, people promptly rushed forward to the brim of the stage which was the furthest, they/we could go. I, am not one of those crazy, groupie, crowd surfing fans. But having listened to Stars for years and finally seeing them live being a surreal experience in itself, I thought, "What the heck". Plus being right upfront I got to touch their guitarist, Chris Seligman's arm! *Scream* No, not really. Just thought it goes hand in hand with being in front.

That was my draft for the article in The Journal when I thought Greg wasn't gonna come through with it so I had to write one myself. Luckily he did so we used his.

23rd Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) at The Marquee

All the bands that played were super hell good. It was completely, uncomfortably packed by the time it ended at 3ish am. Bloc Party played there a month ish back.

It was fun flashing my press pass like in Sex & The City haha. Either they're stupid or I'm lucky or both that they matched my press pass & borrowed id yet they didn't notice the discrepancy in name... Oh got to stand in front of the barricades, right at the tip of the stage cos of that too heh heh heh. Some photographers went onto the stage but I didn't.

There was a craft table!! About positive/negative space & shapes. Rings a bell, Art Outreachers? Haha.

Got back with an hour to spare before the football game. Was taking a nap when the freaking fire alarm went off for the 3rd time since I've been here. Went off a 4th time in the middle of the night at freaking 4am but luckily I was in Toronto. So Yannick was like let's take a picture & I was like hahaha err okay.

David & I went to the Maritime Fall Fair. The bus that could get us the closest didn't run on Sundays so we took another that would get us the next closest which from the map was not too far at all but my, my we had to walk uphill on a freaking highway for pretty long. My super neat side of the room!!

The curtain thing & rod didn't come with the room I bought it, among many other things. A fan, hair dryer, mirror, iron, ironing board, dustbin, lamp... & I have clothes/stuff in the drawers under my bed as well. My bed is really small. Like a Single or smaller maybe. It's called a Twin XL (Extra Long). But my duvet covers' a Queen which is too huge it like extends till the floor all the time.

We don't have to fight for the bathroom surprisingly. Like we all use it at different times I guess. Like my room mate, Megan's classes are all in the morning & end about lunch. Whereas mine only start after lunch.

Apparently we'll get a bit of Hurricane Hanna over the weekend so they're notices around & messages on our voice mail telling us to shut our windows & disconnect our laptops & electronic stuff from the sockets to minimize damage. The notice on the right says like prepare a first aid kit, 4l of water & other stuff I didn't read... Like awhile ago some idiots were playing on the corridor & some alarm went off & I was so clueless I was getting my keys & coat & when I opened my door a staff was there & the alarm stopped.

Yannick & Osai's room face the stadium so they two, Andrew, Kenson & I caught the Huskies opening game from there. Oh they were parachutists & planes who flew really near the field with smoke like NDP but I missed that part!!!

The kiddy jumpy thing!! I dared Kenson 2 bucks to go then Osai dared me 10 bucks to go hahaha. & like half time after the cheerleaders do their thing all the kids would run on the field & play catch... Little girls would fool around doing, or trying to do cartwheels. Cute.

Nice long rainy walks

The Dark Knight at Prince for most places were sold out. Never been to or even heard of that place, its at Shaw something near Suntec, assuming its ulu yet it was surprisingly busy/crowded.

Saw lots of kiddos from the NDP walking to their chartered buses.

So like free tickets for us 'cos our friend Jade owns the place haha.

Went to Manda's with Damien & Ameer. Picked Iris up then we went to Al Ameen.

Picked Clarence & Maxi up & headed to Kembangan for good mee swa but it was closed. So we went to East Coast for Macs breakfast!!

Maxi K.O.-ed everywhere haha.

Salvation Army followed by Bukit Panjang Plaza with Iris for we were running out of places to go... Ameer joined us! (:

& this one was so poised with its' perfect posture & straight back while sitting upright . Like how parents/relatives/teachers used to always tell us not to hunch... Not photographed as so though.

Then Vic & Shaun. Impromptu decision to go to Golden Mile.

Look how low the car park's ceiling was!! & not to mention narrow!! There was a sign that said '(go) dangerous slow' hahaha.

Had surprisingly good Thai beef noodles. Surprising 'cos the stall looked/looks dodgy & all, doesn't it? But well I guess Golden Mile's nicknamed 'Little Thailand' for a reason.

Sime Road cemetery after to see a supposedly fascinating (boyzz) tomb of a wealthy Chinese tycoon who has statues of the two guerrilla guards he once had in real life.

Thomson for prata, Victor joined us there. Left to meet Jerald & wound back at the same prata stall where we sat for hours chatting, laughing & gossiping over anything & everything, reminiscing the past & dreaming of/planning the future... good times. See you in two weeks botakkk.

Picked Clarence up then we headed to Changi Village. Forgot how bloody far/'in' it was. Tranny spotting was eventful hahaha. & we took impossibly long + several detours & finally with help from the amazing Aaron we got to Simpang. Bumped into Ju, Shawn, Jerome, Justin... (!!)

Aaron & I laughed together for the first time in years. What went wrong then?

Juice shoot at Botanical Gardens

Ivan dropped the two models; Mark & Jeremy & I in town. Mark stays in town so he left us. Jeremy just got to Sing from London a day before so I brought/showed him around... It was so funny seeing how he looked at everything in astonishment/wonderment/with curiosity... I went to source for 6-7 damn hours after he left my feet hurt like crazyyy!

Am a week & a half behind the rest of the world but oh well.

Got home, did some work before heading out with Colinn. Picked Iris up from Dempsey then we went to meet everybody at Olio for Hoe Gardens.

Headed in 3 cars to climb fucking Bukit Timah Hill after in apparent search for ~~ghosts~~ mosquitoes. Eventually led to a dead end/drainage thing so we headed back. Went to Rail Mall to discuss where to go next or something. Boys ended up moshing in Colinn’s car & having a party on his car haha.

Went to Mohammed Sultan for Bak Kut Teh after. Then Grange/Nathan Road in search for haunted houses… Boys. Iris & I waited outside & shortly after some of the boys came back out saying there was nothing. Shawn pulled us away from the road saying there's a car coming fast, & it was a police car! They stopped, asked questions, everybody told them a different story it was very funny really. Iris & I kept quiet, hands cupped over mouths trying to compress the sound of our giggling... Fun indeed.

Am going to Bintan again tmr, will be back 10th or 13th. If I come back on the 10th, Ivan's back on the 11th & there's a shoot on the 12th... If I come back on the 13th I'd have had fun with friends. Hmmm. See y'all then. Happy holidays!
